Abstract
In one and a half years survey (1969~1970) at Sacred Heart Hospital, there were 150 patients with peptic ulcer consisting of 87 patients with gastric ulcer (58%), 54 with duodenal ulcer(35%), and 9 with combined gastric and duodenal ulcer (6%.)
Of these, 111 cases were in male and 39 in female, (2. 8/1 of male/female ratio). The occurrence ratio of male and female was 3.6/1 in gastric ulcer and 3.3/1 in duodenal ulcer. The age distribution of the patients was ranged 18 to 70 in male, (mean: 42. 1¡¾10. 9) and 21 to 70 in female, (mean: 42. 6¡¾12. 5). There could be observed a peak incidence of peptic ulcer in the 30~39 age group as a whole, in the 30~39 in male and in 40~49 in female. The ratio of gastric/duodenal ulcer was 1.6/1, and it was 1.8/1 in male and 1.1/1 in female. The main symptom of peptic ulcer, was epigastric hunger pain (64% in which the gastric ulcer demonstrated more frequent incidence. The gastric ulcers occurred more often in the pylorus and incisura angularis (77%), and all of duodenal ulcers in the bulb of duodenum. The most common type of gastric ulcers was the round type (34%), and in order. of frequency, the cone type, linear type, collar button type, shallow type were demonstrated on X-ray study. There were a large ulcer with size of 30 mm in diameter and a small ulcer of 2 mm in diameter; usual range was 4mm to 10 mm in diameter and 1 mm to 6 mm in depth. In follow up X-ray studies of 31 patients with peptic ulcer after medical regimen, 20 patients (64. 5%) were healed within 4 months; the majority of these were healed within 2 months. There could be found high cure rate on ulcer of antrum and pylorus, and either on ulcer of cone type. When the ulcer sizes of round type and cone type were closely similar, the favorite lure was expected in the cone type.
